I have never WUP'd the plugs from years ago and they still work just fine. The Musicians II bundle is like $150 and has this and actually has the doubler which does the Harmonizer type thing which is the only 2 plugins I use from the bundle but I use them on almost every project. There are so many things I would think would work better that I own.but don't. It seems to do the comp at this level without effing up the mix. I'm not big on Waves but I haven't found another that beats it on this function. Sad enough, what has worked well as a Mastering comp is Wave Rencomp. The other functions (MB Comp, exciter, stereo widener) all work well as long as you only use a tiny bit. It also has very nice metering which I like. A lot of people think this is cheating, but I don't care as long as I get the results I want and mastering is an annoying stage that nobody wants to pay for so getting it done quickly is really good. The EQ has a matching function to move it towards a mix of your choice which works very well IMO.
I think it beats Elephant, UAD Precision Limiter, and the UAD 33609.all of which I own. The limiter in it is the best in my opinion. I love the SSL thing on the Buss, it makes things sound more like a record faster than anything else I've tried.įor mastering duties I use Izotope Ozone 4 for the limiter and dither. This rarely doesn't work for me but I've used the 33609 occasionally. Personally I love to test new stuff, so the weekend will give me fun with the Bombardier^^.įor buss compression I usually use UAD 4k (SSL) Buss Comp. I'd just test Stillwell compressors and the ddmf too, as it might save you a lot of money. You seem to have set your mind already on the T-racks, and as you got a 10 days demo without restrictions, you might just as well decide how happy you are with it. Of course Voxengo has superb compressors, like many of his stuff is superb. And I use the ddmf compressor, already mentioned, and love it. I am just about to test Stillwell's Bombardier (offline for 2 months I just found about it reading the latest Computermusic mag^^, which is very fond of Stillwell's plugin, just to add to Steindork and others here). Always did the job great, still, there is plugin-guru bmanic who just doesn't like the db-audioware-compressors. I use, since ages, the compressors of Dave Brown, like in quantum-fx2.5 (a plugin-suite, you surely wouldn't buy this one just to have a compressor), or his sidechain compressor.
